I appreciated the creamed spinach, sautéed zucchini, and cheddar cheese grits side dishes, though they aren’t necessarily healthy. Afternoon tea is always our favorite thing to do, so we didn’t miss a single day unless we were on an excursion. A close runner-up was the nightly entertainment, with incredibly talented singers and dancers. However, I think the crowd would agree that the outstanding BBC Earth Experience big-screen film, with a live orchestra on the World Stage, was unbelievable. I never miss visiting a Fairmont Hotel in Canada as the afternoon tea is sinfully enjoyable, namely the gourmet tower of sandwiches, scones, and pastries. The price was a little higher than the others I’ve been to, but the tea itself was on a much larger scale, too.

Unlike night 1, there was no line at the Deck 2 main dining room. So, we were immediately escorted to a table all the way at the aft of the restaurant. Eventually making our way back onboard Nieuw Statendam, we grabbed a late lunch. Heidi went with the pizza, which I still say is average at best. I made a custom sandwich with the pulled pork from the carving station at the Lido Marketplace. Although, with another ship in port, the area was quite busy.

With only 30 something full time residents, the seaside village of Peggy’s Cove looks like something out of a movie. Annette had a casual presentation style with a side of Canadian humor. We heard history, politics, religion, climate, and other facts about the city and province. For once, we arrived early to the meeting spot for this tour. Though, as soon as we checked in, our tour was called for disembarkation.

Holland America’s Zaandam was an excellent ship to spend the week on, especially as it only had 1,432 passengers. It had two relaxing hot tubs for unwinding after busy touring days and a library for playing games and working puzzles in the afternoon. There were several different options for seeing and hearing live music onboard, which we both enjoyed.
This evening, our group was dining at the Italian specialty restaurant, Canaletto. Like other Holland America Line ship’s, Canaletto is oddly located in the buffet. A round of drinks later, and some newfound friends from Vancouver, we remained here for a while even after the piano duo ended.
